Saturday, November 16 - GLEANING - Meet in the lot at Ravenscroft at 8 AM and return by 2:30 PM.  We can take 14, or 28 (if we get a 2nd bus!) to pick collard greens that we will deliver at 1:30 to Wake Relief Food Pantry for local families as part of our Thanksgiving food drive. December 4-13 (one of two weeks) Don't forget to stop by Rhonda's Cafe this week to get a Holiday Candy Gram!  We will deliver the candy to a locker for just $1.  All proceeds go to support Christmas for the Children at the Boys and Girls Homes of NC.  Help us support our district project, raising money for gifts for the children at B&G Homes at Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina.  Children from birth to 18 are in transitional stages between foster care or permanently in a group home until adoption.

August Help on Campus!

We have a great community service opportunity at the Lower School.  Volunteers are needed to help get ready for the upcoming school year, with organizing and labelling supplies, etc.  It’s fun, easy community service that is greatly appreciated by the Lower School staff.

You are not required to stay for an entire shift, but you should leave a note in the sign up sheet if you only stay for part of the shift.

Summer Service Ideas!


JDRF Tennis Camp, June 10-13th from 4:30-6 PM – see Chris Antonello and Abby Czito.  We will be hosting our 5th annual  Quick Start Tennis Camp to raise money for fighting Juvenile Diabetes.  We need volunteers to help with sign in, snack, and teaching tennis.  See Photos here: http://ravenscroftkeyclub.shutterfly.com/1715

Key Club International Convention – June 30-July 7 – ICON – Join Sarah Lowery and the rest of the Carolinas District on a tour to Washington DC.  Week long trip includes Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion for only $799.  See www.carolinaskeyclub.org and Sarah for details.

Saturday, July 27th 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM @ Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary.  Join us at the Mariposa Music Festival - to raise awareness and celebrate the accomplishments of The Mariposa School, a nationally recognized school for children with autism and other developmental delays.  Help us set up and work at tables for T-shirt Sales, collecting Tickets, ushering patrons, etc.  If you're interested, email Mrs. Thrash (ethrash@ravenscroft.org) with your cell phone number!

Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina - Students 12 to 17 years of age are welcome to volunteer with a parent/guardian (could be one parent for a few kids) during normal volunteer hours. 18 years of age and older do not need a chaperone. Saturday April 27 - March for Babies – 6 AM – noon at Imperial Center in RTP.  Directions here(Double hours for working 6-8 AM!) We are in charge of the kids corner.  We will decorate strollers, play corn hole and sidewalk chalk, paint nails, and supervise the bounce house.    Project Chairs: Abby Czito and Sydney Sweeny.

Other Service Opportunities

Gardening with the Lower School - Mr. Fiedler in the Lower School has a Butterfly Garden Club that meets Wednesday 3:00-4:00.  For the dates March 27, Apr 3,10,17 he could use a couple of volunteers to help direct the kids in the garden even if for a ½ hour. 
He will be attempting to build a new double compost bin much like the old one that was destroyed for the new vegetable garden in April / May.  If you can help, email him at jfiedler@ravenscroft.org

Wake County Big Sweep  - Saturdays this spring cleaning Wake County- check for dates.

Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina - Students 12 to 17 years of age are welcome to volunteer with a parent/guardian (could be one parent for a few kids) during normal volunteer hours. 18 years of age and older do not need a chaperone. Shift times are Tuesday - Saturday 9am-12pm, 1-4pm and Wednesday evening 6-8pm. Arrive with your permission slip 5 minutes before the shift begins. See these FAQs.

Questionnaires for Wake County!  During Spring Break April 1- 5, students age 16+ are needed to help WCHS conduct its annual Customer Satisfaction Survey.
Volunteers will sit/stand in the lobbies and common areas of Human Services Buildings and assist customers in completing a 1/2 page questionnaire that will be deposited into a sealed drop box.
Bilingual volunteers are encouraged, but it is not required to apply.
Volunteers should have a friendly demeanor and feel comfortable talking to people. The morning shift is from 9am until 11:30am.
The afternoon shift is from 2pm until 4:30pm.
Volunteers will be given a brief orientation and training session prior to the start of their shift.  Please plan to arrive about 15 minutes early.

January 12 Warmth for Wake, for ages 16+, is a Wake County Human Services program, providing in-need households in and around Raleigh with free firewood from November through March. For many households, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves are the only sources of heat.

Volunteers (with pickup trucks, chainsaws and splitters, if possible) cut and split wood on site, deliver wood to recipients and, sometimes, collect wood from area donors. Volunteers need to read these guidelines and map, and sign this form as permission to work.  Bryant Dowd and Thomas Sigmon for details.


Saturday, January 19 Gleaning for Collard Greens -Meet in the lot at Ravenscroft at 8:45 AM and return by 1:30 PM.  We are hoping to have at least 14 on one bus, and if there are any teachers who would like to drive, we could secure a second mini bus and fill it!  These Collard Greens will go to hungry families in Wake County by the end of the day on Saturday.  Please join us.  Please bring gloves and pruning shears and $ for Bojangles on the way home! Print out this NEW form for permission. -  see Austin amorin@ravenscroft.org
