Carolinas Key Club District Convention Report


Fifteen members of the Ravenscroft Key Club attended the Carolinas Key Club District Convention March 21-23. They were accompanied by Highwoods Kiwanis Member Bill Shelton, and his wife Karen, along with club advisor, Mrs. Thrash. At covention, they experienced leadership training, team building and were recognized for awards in service this year.

Cory Carr '16 was elected a Lt. Governor for the Carolinas District. He will go to the International Convention in California summer 2014.

Sarah Lowery '15 retired from Lt. Governor after having led 11 Key Clubs in the district. She and Austin Morin '15 were recently elected Co-Presidents for our club in the 2014-2015 school year.

The following awards were presented to the Ravenscroft Key Club:

  • Second Place District Project Award for the sixth annual gaming tournament for the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina. Ravenscroft Key Club raised $825, which was second most in the Carolinas district.
  • Outstanding Club Award based on the Annual Achievement Report, placing Ravenscroft in the top 10 clubs in the Carolinas District.
  • Third place in Single Service Award Category for the January Red Cross blood drive.
  • Walter Zeller Fellowship Award for donations to UNICE for the Eliminate Project. Ravenscroft raised over $2,000 over the last three years from Dance Marathon and Trick Or Treats for UNICEF.
  • Third place in the essay competition by Andrew Pruden ‘16 for the topic, “What are the qualities that make a great Key Club Leader?”

Ravenscroft also provided the leadership for the Convention Service Project of decorating 500 bags for the Special Olympics with students from all over North and South Carolina.
