MLK Day of Service - Monday, January 19th (no school) Gleaning - Going to Louisburg for Carrots, then deliver them to Wake Relief in downtown Raleigh. Meet at 9 AM at Rhonda's cafe. Home by 2:30. Only 14 seats available, sign up now to secure your seat!  See Austin Morin and Zoe Strafford-Price.

November - December 2014

Wed., Nov. 12 - Full Club meeting at Lunch @ Gonet! We will discuss events through the end of 2014 listed below....

Lower School Buddies - @ 3rd grade center, any afternoon all school year! See Jessica Kim or Mrs. Thrash for details.

November 1-20th - Collect cans and other non-perishable food items for Wake Relief, a food pantry for deserving families in downtown Raleigh. We aim to make their table full for Thanksgiving! Our goal is 100% participation by the Upper School students. Key Club members should encourage their advisory members to bring in items and have advisors register those donations on the shared spreadsheet. Items can be placed in all 4 stairwells.

Thursday, November 20th - Deliver Cans to Wake Relief on Glenwood South after School. Email Rachel if you have a vehicle and could work loading and unloading from 3:30-5 PM.

First Fruits Farm in Louisburg

Jason Brown, the owner of the farm where we gleaned last weekend, talks about how he returned home after the NFL, "living a life with purpose." Look for our members, Carolyn, Andy, John Daniel in the video. Together, we harvested 30,000 pounds last Saturday.

Summer Service Opportunities!

Get involved in your community this summer! With all of these events, you will need to make the connection yourself. Call, email, or sign up online and then show up to serve! Get a Community Service form filled out and turn it into Mrs. Thrash at school in August and she will record these KEY CLUB hours! Yes, non-members, friends from other schools, and rising 9th graders are welcome! Thanks, and have a safe summer!

Lower School Volunteers needed all summer, help the teachers prepare for school, especially in later July and August. Contact Charlotte Spence at charlottespence@ravenscroft.org to find out the latest schedule.


Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina - Students 12 to 17 years of age are welcome to volunteer with a parent/guardian (could be one parent for a few kids) during normal volunteer hours. 18 years of age and older do not need a chaperone. Shift times are Tuesday - Saturday 9am-12pm, 1-4pm and Wednesday evening 6-8pm. Arrive with your permission slip 5 minutes before the shift begins. See these FAQs.

Saturday, June 14 - Highwoods Kiwanis - Roll out the Dictionaries Bowling Tournament! Benefitting Wake County Dictionary Project for 3rd grade students and the Kiwanis Worldwide ELIMINATE Project to eradicate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus. See this form to sign up! Or Cory and Mary for details.

Friday 5pm August 15-Saturday 5pm August 16th. Carolina Hurricanes - Kids n Community Foundation's 24 Hour Bike Challenge at Athletes Performance with Raleigh Orthopaedic.   Last year we grew from 140 riders to 280 and raised over $25,000 for KNCF in the 24 hours. Carolinas Key Club District Convention Report


Fifteen members of the Ravenscroft Key Club attended the Carolinas Key Club District Convention March 21-23. They were accompanied by Highwoods Kiwanis Member Bill Shelton, and his wife Karen, along with club advisor, Mrs. Thrash. At covention, they experienced leadership training, team building and were recognized for awards in service this year.

Cory Carr '16 was elected a Lt. Governor for the Carolinas District. He will go to the International Convention in California summer 2014.

Sarah Lowery '15 retired from Lt. Governor after having led 11 Key Clubs in the district. She and Austin Morin '15 were recently elected Co-Presidents for our club in the 2014-2015 school year.

The following awards were presented to the Ravenscroft Key Club:

  • Second Place District Project Award for the sixth annual gaming tournament for the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina. Ravenscroft Key Club raised $825, which was second most in the Carolinas district.
  • Outstanding Club Award based on the Annual Achievement Report, placing Ravenscroft in the top 10 clubs in the Carolinas District.
  • Third place in Single Service Award Category for the January Red Cross blood drive.
  • Walter Zeller Fellowship Award for donations to UNICE for the Eliminate Project. Ravenscroft raised over $2,000 over the last three years from Dance Marathon and Trick Or Treats for UNICEF.
  • Third place in the essay competition by Andrew Pruden ‘16 for the topic, “What are the qualities that make a great Key Club Leader?”

Ravenscroft also provided the leadership for the Convention Service Project of decorating 500 bags for the Special Olympics with students from all over North and South Carolina.
